My oldest daughter gets done with school soon and only has a few more classes left. I cannot believe she will be done with second grade and onto third grade next year or that my little one will be starting kindergarten next year either!! Although right now I am trying to figure out how to get through summer and found some really fun DIY Yard Games that I can do with them outside.
We love games here and I think it is so great that people came up with ways to make some of the indoor games we played fun for outside as well. So here is what I found and what I want to make for my girls to play with this summer in between other summer fun of course!
How fun does this look!? My girls would get such a kick out of this and if my nephews came over we could all play it and the best part will be when someone knocks it over! I also love how you can add the colors on the sides to make it extra fun and that I would get to decide or I could let the girls pick and help me.
All of us mom’s have been there when you have a little one that wants to play the matching game. Why not take it outside by making a bigger one for outside? It allows your child to still learn while being outside this summer too. I have a little girl going into kindergarten next year so this will be a must!
Or if you do not want to make one and would rather purchase one, this shop JacksandJills, has them for sale as well and you get everything already together (plus the wood is already sealed so you wouldn’t have to worry about doing that too!):
Five cedar dice: 4 x 4 inches each
Laminated scorecard and instructions
Dry erase marker and eraser
I grew up playing this with my family when I was younger and really enjoyed it. This version would be so much fun to play outside on the lawn. I think my mom may have old square blocks from when she did her crafting so I may have to bust those out and make some for my family to play this summer.
Seriously why did I not think of this myself?!? It is extremely easy and I have both string and plastic cups both already at our house! Plus kids LOVE it when you play games that involve water, it ups the cool factor by a ton.
This one is pretty easy as you could always improvise and just use some old branches from a trimmed tree (they may not be straight but hey more of a challenge right??) Or grab some stakes and hammer them into the grass. For the rings you could get those cheap water rings from Walmart as well. Although if you want it to look really nice you could always upgrade to the nicer version (above).
I love this idea as my kiddos love Dominoes! Plus there are so many different ways to play Dominoes, it keeps you from ever getting bored.
This will be a great way to use all those balls from the ball pit that my girls never play in any more. Plus the kids will love it when all the balls come crashing to the ground and spilling out everywhere.
How simple is this?? All you need are rocks which are, well, pretty much everywhere here! I love how they chose cute summer bugs as well but you could make them into whatever you want. Plus we cut down a tree and I am sure we still have some of those rounds left.
This is super easy AND I wouldn’t have to try and fold up the mat after playing.
This one is a bit more spendy as they used astro turf for the checker board but I was thinking of just using spray paint to make the board like they do in the twister game and then you could buy the lids if you wanted which would bring the cost down some.
Obviously you would still have to pay for the actual game but I could not resist adding this to the list! Look how beautiful these are!! I am in love with the colors and want to do this so bad for my girls and myself. It is just so fun!
Now I have never played this game but have heard so many rave reviews about it. I am dying to have one to play here at the house. I have talked to my dad before about making us one if he ever had any left over 4×4 wood posts. My brother told me about it and said it was a blast to play so I may have to make one for us to use this summer.
How fun are all these games?! The best part is most of them don’t cost much to make and it keeps your family outside for fun in the sun. It also keeps everyone together playing games instead of people off doing their own things. Now all I will need to do when I make some of these is to buy a tub to store them in when we are not using them. I have a black lab that would LOVE to get her mouth on these fun games and completely destroy them with her jaws!
