The bread that ruined my diet.
My sister, owner of Briar Roses Boutique has many talents. One of them is making homemade bread and making you forget you’re on a low carb, not eating everything in sight diet.
She was out and about looking for bread pans and let’s me know the second she finally found one to make a homemade sandwich bread recipe. I mean her other breads are amazing, so I had high hopes that her sandwich bread would be just as good. When she got home from shopping she starts to work and sends me pictures of her endeavors in the kitchen, which, by the way is just pure torture. You guys….I can literally almost smell the bread through the phone all while trying not to drool at work.
Putting in my order….
Because my sister is an expert bread artisian, I told her that she should just make me my own loaf of french bread to gorge on. To my surprise she totally complies with my request and texts me a pic of said french loaf rising. My sister is the best!! So naturally after I get off work I zipped over to her place to pick up my just out of the oven, warm french loaf. I literally couldn’t even wait till I got home to have a piece, naturally cut myself and slice, buttered it up and stuffed my face. My bread order was put in a cute little basket, and off I went. The entire car smelled like fresh homemade bread, I fought the urge to pick up the loaf and take bites as I was driving. Pretty sure this is what heaven smells like.
First of all have you ever tried your hand at making homemade french bread? If you haven’t why not? Secondly this bread has four ingredients…yes you heard me right…FOUR(I am guessing they aren’t counting water as an ingredient)!!! Thirdly, the best part is you don’t have to have a bread machine!
Let’s be honest, you only really have been reading this far because you want the recipe, and I am going to give it to you. My only request is that you invite me over while you’re making it.
Easy French Bread
1 1/2 cups warm water (like baby bath water)
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon Active Dry Yeast
3 1/2 – 4 1/2 cups flour
1. Combine the water, honey, salt and yeast in a glass bowl. Let sit for 5-10 mins. until there’s some bubbling, foam stuff on the top.
2.Add a bunch of flour. I used regular white organic flour. You want your dough to be sticking to itself, not your fingers. So, keep adding flour and keep kneading until that happens.
3. Form the dough into a loaf shape. Cover with a towel and let sit on the counter for 20 mins. This is the time to set the oven to 400 degrees.
4. After 20 mins., cut fancy slits in the top and bake for 16-20 mins and top is a golden brown or until you can’t take it anymore, but seriously at least 16-20.
5. Enjoy!! You might want to make more than one loaf, you’re welcome!!
